In-House Opportunity | Litigation, Compliance & Construction-Related Matters
A well-established and growing company is seeking an Associate Counsel to join its in-house legal team in Houston. This is a highly visible role offering broad exposure across litigation management, operational risk, regulatory compliance, safety initiatives, consumer transactions, and contract review.
This opportunity is ideal for an attorney who enjoys being deeply embedded in the business, partnering directly with internal stakeholders, and handling a wide variety of legal matters in a fast-paced environment.
The legal team is looking for someone practical, responsive, and business-minded — an attorney who can balance risk management with operational realities while confidently managing both internal and external relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all aspects of litigation involving the company, including construction-related disputes, consumer matters, injury claims, lien claims, payment disputes, and commercial conflicts
- Partner closely with outside counsel on litigation strategy, discovery, witness preparation, mediations, depositions, and trial preparation
- Advise internal teams regarding safety programs, safety compliance, and implementation of new safety initiatives
- Provide guidance on compliance-related matters, including I-9 and immigration issues
- Review and prepare contracts, notices, disclosures, and documentation related to home sales and customer transactions
- Advise on marketing materials, warranty matters, supplier relationships, and contractor issues
- Assist with legislative and regulatory monitoring impacting the business
- Conduct legal training for sales and construction management teams
- Monitor legal developments affecting company operations and risk exposure
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house environment
- Experience handling litigation matters required
- Construction defect or construction-related experience is a strong plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with business teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
